Description

Nos 8 and 10 Regent Street, along with No 2 Eastgate, are offices built in 1895 in a free classical style. The buildings are constructed from ashlar with a Welsh slate roof and rise three storeys high. The Regent Street facade features six bays, while the Eastgate side has five bays. Nos 8 and 10 are designed with a handed layout, separated by a rusticated pilaster. Each has a central doorway framed by a moulded architrave and an open segmental pediment supported by ornamental brackets, with an enriched tympanum that displays the date on the left side.

The ground-floor windows, which were originally tripartite, now have their mullions removed, except for a single window in bay 6. No 10 has aprons beneath its windows, while those of No 8 have been enlarged. On the first and second floors, bays 3 and 4 feature three-light canted oriel windows. The square-headed sash windows on the first floor are unequal and set in raised surrounds, adorned with ornamental heads and steep triangular pediments. The second-floor windows have moulded heads and fleur-de-lys decorations. The building is topped with a dentilled eaves cornice and a deep parapet, and it has tall ornamental ashlar chimney stacks.

The Eastgate elevation mirrors the Regent Street side, featuring a central doorway with an open scrolled pediment and tripartite windows on either side. To the far right, there is an elliptical-arched carriage entrance with a moulded surround and alternately blocked voussoirs, along with canted oriel windows on the first and second floors in bays 2 and 4.
