Description

40, 41, and 42 High Street is a row of three shops that dates from the early 19th century, although it has origins from the late 17th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. They rise three storeys high and feature a three-window range.

Nos. 41 and 42 have late 19th-century shop fronts, which include windows on either side of a central door leading to Peacock Passage, along with a continuous plain fascia above. There is an additional doorway to the right. The front of No. 40 was inserted in the late 20th century.

Above the shop fronts, there are Venetian windows, with the central window adorned with a segmental pediment. The second floor has paired sash windows, and a heavy stuccoed cornice runs along the eaves. The end wall stacks are also present, and thin timbering can be seen in the side walls of the passage.
