Description
43 and 45 Sunderland Street is a pair of shops, originally with living accommodation above, but the upper floors are now used for storage. The buildings date from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. They are constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and features a three-window range.
No. 43 has a late 19th-century shop front, with an earlier doorway still visible to the left. This doorway has a doorcase that includes a shallow pediment and is decorated with a swagged frieze and festoons. Above, there are two 12-pane sash windows. The stone eaves cornice is delicately moulded and continues across No. 45. No. 45 has been extensively rebuilt, featuring an inserted shop front and a 12-pane sash window above.
