Silk mill, now disused. 1872 with extensions of 1885. Brick with low stone plinth and Welsh slate roof. Internal structure with cast-iron columns carrying timber beams. 3 storeys, L-plan, the main range a 13-window range facing George Street, with 6 window return to courtyard to south. Windows largely 16-pane with top opening vents, flat-arched stone heads and continuous stone sill bands. Moulded cornice. Linked by added toilet block to later mill dated 1885: 4 storeys, 11-window range, with large windows to ground-floor weaving shed (which continues into a single-storeyed range of 3 bays to the east). 9-pane upper windows. Doorway at foot of stairs to right, with loading doors to left of George Street elevation. HISTORICAL NOTE: the development of the George Street Mill site marked the change from traditional constructional methods to those employed in the early C20, with the extensions of 1885 being built to accomodate powered Jacquard weaving.
