Description
The Former Wesley Chapel, now a snooker centre, is a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel built in 1799, with 20th-century remodelling. It is constructed of brick and features a Welsh slate roof. The gable with a pediment faces Sunderland Street, and the building has five-window returns that are two stories high. The street elevation has four bays, with interlace tracery in the upper windows and simple Y-tracery in the lower windows. The lower windows also have painted stone aprons inscribed with 'erected 1779' and 'enlarged 1799'. The return elevations display similar window designs. There are doorways with moulded stone architraves on the north and south sides that are no longer in use, with the current entrance located in an extension at the rear. The original interior has been completely gutted to accommodate its new use.
