Description

Nos. 10 and 11 High Street are a pair of shops built in the late 18th century, likely with an earlier core. They were remodeled for John Ashby by the architect Thomas Farnolls Pritchard. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a plain tiled roof.

They rise three storeys and have a four-window range, with windows grouped in pairs on either side of a blocked central window space. The first and second floor windows in No. 10 do not align. The shop fronts, which were inserted later, flank a central doorway and date from the late 19th century. Although the fascias have been renewed, the enriched architraves remain, along with moulded shafts on either side of the central doorway to No. 10. The doorway features recessed double doors with ornate moulded woodwork that forms a shallow pediment and frieze.

The upper windows consist of 2-pane sashes on the first floor, with flat-arched gauged brick heads. The second-floor windows in No. 11 are 12-pane sashes, while No. 10 has casements, all with flat-arched heads. A stone string course runs between the storeys, and the high parapet eaves conceal a steeply pitched roof, indicating that this may be a refronting of an earlier structure. There are lead rainwater goods to the left, featuring an enriched head.
