Description

No. 6 Garden Street is an attached house dated 1703 by its owner. It is built of red Flemish bond brick and features a left-hand brick party wall stack and a right-hand tiled valley roof. The house has a two-room right-angle plan and stands two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and a two-window range.

The exterior includes a full-width timber fascia with narrow triglyphs that extends across a canted three-light bay, which has 8/8-pane and flanking 4/4-pane sash windows. The right-hand doorway features an architrave and steps leading up to a late 20th-century door with a narrow overlight. There are also two horned 2/2-pane sashes in flush frames and a bracketed eaves. A mid-20th-century dormer is present as well.

Inside, the house contains fully-panelled ground-floor rooms with cupboards on either side of eared fire surrounds, a cyma cornice, and moulded axial beams. The rear right-hand stair has column-on-vase balusters, an uncut string, column newels, and a moulded rail. The 18th-century bay window is an early example of its type.
