Description
3 and 4 Prospect Row are two houses located in Gillingham, built in the early to mid 18th century. They feature red Flemish bond brickwork, with a right-hand brick party wall stack and a tiled roof that includes a rear central lateral wing.
No. 3 has a two-storey and attic structure with a three-window range. It boasts an attractive left-hand timber doorcase that includes an architrave and a bracketed broken modillion pediment. The eaves are panelled, and the entrance has a six-panel door, with the top two panels being glazed. The ground floor has two rubbed brick flat arches above 6/6-pane horned sashes set in flush frames, which have rectangular sunken apron panels raised in the middle. There is also a dormer with a flat-headed casement. The ridge of the rear range is raised above the front roof, and the rear features a two-room gable that pairs with No. 2.
No. 4 has two storeys and a two plus two-window range. The left-hand part is taller and has rubbed brick flat arches over 19th-century margin-pane and glazing-bar sashes, with three panes above and six panes below. The right-hand part features keyed segmental arches over 6/6-pane sashes in flush sash boxes, with a similar sash added to the upper floor in the later 19th century. A pedimented doorcase is located at the far left.
The houses are part of a varied terrace that was built between 1705 and 1759.
