Description
Hollytree Cottage is a house that dates from the 16th century or earlier, with a refronting in the early 19th century and further refronting of the southwest bays in the 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with weatherboarding on the front and rear, a brick northeast corner, and a mid-20th century south extension. The cottage has a large brick ridge stack and a hipped tiled roof.
The building is two stories high and has a three-window range. It is divided into two sections; the taller right-hand section is made of brick and has a 20th-century panelled door, a canopy, and horned 8/8-pane sash windows. The left-hand section, which is lower and timber-framed, has ground-floor three-light casements and two first-floor two-light casements. A large stack is located at the junction of the two sections, and the rear features a two-storey lean-to behind the brick section.
The interior has not been inspected but is recorded to have timber members with double curved braces, ground-floor ceiling beams and joists, a crown post collar beam roof with purlins and renewed rafters, and inserted fireplaces from the 17th century or earlier, complete with bressumers.
