Description
Box Tree Cottage is a house that dates from the late 16th century or 17th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with an exposed timber-frame at the rear, topped by a steeply pitched slate roof featuring brick-coped gables and a brick end stack. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic, with a symmetrical two-window arrangement and end pilaster strips.
The entrance features a moulded doorcase with a cornice above a six-fielded-panel door. On the ground floor, there are canted bay windows with hipped slate roofs and small-paned glazing, with the right bay including an opening pane. The first floor has two windows with wedge lintels above two-light small-paned casements, and there is a gabled roof dormer with a 20th-century casement. The rear of the cottage displays square framing with braces, with brick on the left end and a plastered right end. A late 20th-century plaque indicates a date of 1582. The interior has not been inspected.
