Description

Queendown Warren is a Grade II* manor house dating from around 1560. It features a timber frame with exposed plaster infill and a plain tiled roof. The building stands two storeys high with a garret on a flint plinth. It has a continuous first-floor jetty that extends to the left and right, supported by dragon posts. The roof is hipped to the left and gabled to the right, with chimney stacks positioned centre-right and a projecting end on the left.

The house has an off-centre two-storey gabled porch that is jettied at the first floor and eaves. The porch and the first floor to the left display ornamental panelling with concave-sided diamonds, while the rest of the structure is close-studded. On the first floor, there are four wood mullioned windows, with those in the porch and to the right being segmental oriels with sidelights. The ground floor features two segmental oriels with sidelights on the left and right, along with one mullioned window to the left. A boarded door with a moulded surround is located in the porch.

At the rear, there are 19th-century brick and flint additions. The grant to build the manor was given during the reign of Philip and Mary (1554-1558), and there is an initialed fireplace from the owner dating from 1558 to 1573. The date 1566 on the porch is believed to be a 19th-century addition. Originally known as Yaugher Manor and located near Hartlip village, the house was moved to its current site in 1841 by William Bland of Hartlip Place.
