Description
Penny Cottage is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with additions made in the 18th century. Originally, it was timber-framed, but the front and end walls were rebuilt in the 18th century using flint for the ground floor and brick for the first floor, all of which is rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a half-hipped design at both ends. The house features a lobby entry, consists of two bays and a stack bay, with stairs located behind the stack. It stands two storeys high with a garret on a plinth, and has a plat band that returns around the gable ends. A small central brick ridge stack is present, and the windows are arranged irregularly, consisting of three one-and-two-light casements, with the garret end being lit. There is a plain door located under an open timber porch, and a rear lean-to is also part of the structure. Inside, the cottage has two heavy ovolo-moulded beams and some exposed framing.
