Description
26 St Margaret's Street is a detached house built in the early to mid-18th century. It features a timber frame, with weatherboarding on the right side and plaster on the other elevations. The roof is covered with Kent tiles and has a quarter-hipped design at the front, along with a catslide roof over the services at the rear. The house has a two-room plan with an outshut and is oriented end-on to the street. It has a ridge stack and is two storeys high with an attic.
The front of the house includes a single-storey range, a two-light casement window in the gable wall, a 16-pane sash window in a revealed frame on the first floor, and two renewed sashes on the ground floor set within the frame of a former shop front, as the building used to operate as a baker's shop. There is a panelled door to the right and a tiled plinth at the base. The side walls have no windows, except for a small stair light.
Inside, the interior is modest, featuring rough ceiling beams and joists, and a rebuilt fireplace. The original two rooms on the ground floor have been combined into a single room, while the upper floors have not been inspected.
