Description
This lamp post, located in front of number 29 on Park Street in Brighton, is a gas standard designed in the 1880s, possibly cast as late as 1930. It was converted to electric light in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The lamp post is made of cast iron and another metal, featuring an octagonal, panelled base and a tapering octagonal shaft that matches the base. It has a simple coved capital and a single maintenance arm. The design is Tudor in style. Above the shaft, there is a timing mechanism or clock box marked "BLEECO," which serves as a base for a swan-neck, tubular bracket. This bracket is supported by a metal fillet shaped like a tendril, and it includes a shallow dish reflector.
