Stable Buildings And Gate Pier North-West Of Ascot Place

The stable buildings and gate pier located north-west of Ascot Place date from the late 19th century. They are constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond and feature an old tile hipped roof with two different heights. The building has a rectangular plan and is single storey with a pigeon loft in the roof.

The exterior includes a small rendered plinth and 2-light cross casement windows with segmental brick arched heads. The north front has seven bays and is symmetrical. The first bay features 20th-century wooden garage doors, the centre bay has a stable door with an overlight above a pedimental pigeon loft, and the right-hand bay contains a plain wooden door with overlights. At the north-west corner, there is a gate pier topped with a stone ball finial.

These stables form the south side of a stable yard that is paved with stone and cobbles. They are included for their group value.
