Description
The greenhouse garden and former cattleshed and yard, located north-west of Ascot Place, are part of a large kitchen garden. The enclosing walls date from the 18th century, while the wall surrounding the cattleyard is from the late 19th century. The north wall is the back of Bothy Cottage in the west yard. The east wall, which is about 3 metres high, separates the greenhouse garden from the East walled garden. The south wall is part of the Estate Office and an adjoining tower. Both the north and east walls have extensive late 19th-century lean-to greenhouses attached. There is an 11-bay lean-to cattleshed against the west wall, featuring a roof supported by a single purlin with struts from long ties on one side and oak posts on the open side facing east. The west wall, also approximately 3 metres high, has 39 blind openings with segmental heads and is part of the long wall running north-south, which includes the Estate Office and adjoining tower, as well as Bothy Cottage and the west yard. The greenhouse garden, along with the East walled garden and the east and west yards, is adjacent to the stable buildings and forms part of the former large kitchen gardens for Ascot Place.
