Description
The stables to No. 54, built in the late 18th century, are constructed of red brick and feature a hipped slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a brick cornice with modillions at the eaves. It consists of three bays, with the eastern bay obscured by an extension to the house. The central bay is topped with a modillioned pediment and includes a planked door with a semi-circular fanlight on the ground floor, along with a boarded-up window on the first floor. The western bay has planked double doors with a semi-circular head on the ground floor and a double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the first floor. Both semi-circular arches are adorned with one course of grey headers above and concentric voussoirs. The courtyard is enclosed by a brick wall with Pulborough stone coping and features a planked gate with the original iron latch, along with brick paving. The stables are part of a group that includes Nos. 36 to 64 (even) and Nos. 70 to 74 (even), as well as Nos. 83, 85, and 91 to 101 (odd).
