Description
These late 18th-century iron railings belong to Nos. 46 and 48 Tarrant Street. The north elevation incorporates nodular flint with red brick dressings, grey brick headers in blocked windows, and a pitched slate roof with red brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and a basement. A brick modillion eaves cornice runs along the top. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, with a single casement window with iron glazing bars in the basement. The front doors are six-panelled, with the top four panels being fielded, set within panelled reveals and a common frame. This frame features Tuscan pilasters with substantial bases that support an entablature with a blocking course. A carved panel sits above the entablature, with fielded panels on the central trumeau and a single panel in relief between the doors. A limestone step leads up to the doors. The area is enclosed by iron railings topped with fleur-de-lys finials.
This property forms a group with Nos. 36 to 64 (even), Nos. 70 to 74 (even), and Nos. 83, 85, 91 to 101 (odd).
