Description
40 Tarrant Street is a mid-19th century building made of red brick with a hipped tile roof. It stands three storeys tall and features four ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on the first and second floors. The ground floor has an early 20th-century shop front faced with glazed tiles, which are black up to window level and cream above. A black glazed tile fascia board is framed by wooden moulding, topped with a wooden cornice. There are two doors with oblong fanlights set in deep reveals; one door is almost completely glazed, while the other is partly glazed with glazing bars. The ground floor also includes two plate glass windows and one double-hung sash window. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 36 to 64 (even) and Nos 70 to 74 (even), as well as Nos 83, 85, and 91 to 101 (odd).
