Description

The building consists of stables, a gate pier, and an adjoining tower located to the north-west of Ascot Place. It was constructed in the mid-18th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The materials used include red brick laid in Flemish bond, with an old tile hipped roof.

The structure has a rectangular plan with a square tower attached on the east side and is two stories high. It features a small rendered plinth, a brick string course at the first floor, and brick dentilled eaves. The east front has seven bays, with the second and fifth bays containing planked loft doors, while the other bays are blind with segmental brick arched heads. The ground floor has four windows, each accompanied by a planked stable door on the right. There is a late 19th-century iron lantern on scrolled brackets on the first floor, positioned between the third and fourth bays. On the right end, there is a pair of wooden 20th-century garage doors.

The south-west corner has a gate pier topped with a stone ball finial. An early 20th-century brick wall with a gate and two side panels of decorative ironwork is located between the north-east corner of the stable block and the north-west corner of the Estate Office. The south-east corner features another brick gate pier with a stone ball finial.

The west front has twelve bays, with the first two bays containing 2-light casement windows, while the remaining ten bays are blind, all with segmental heads. There is a brick string at the first floor level. A long brick wall runs north from the front, with other parts of this wall included separately under Bothy Cottage, the west and east yards, and the Greenhouse garden.

The tower has two stages and is topped with a pyramidal roof, which has a small bellcote with open arched sides, a lead ogee roof, and a ball finial. The second stage contains a dovecote with four small openings on the south face. The tower is otherwise plain, except for a simple wooden entrance door on the east face. The stables and adjoining tower form the west side of a stone-paved and cobbled stable yard.
