Description

Frog Cottage is a hall house that has been converted into a cottage. It dates back to the 16th century and has undergone alterations and extensions in the 17th century, early 19th century, and 20th century. The building is constructed of part painted brick and part timber framing with painted brick infill, topped with an old tile hipped roof.

The cottage has a nearly square plan with two framed bays, now featuring extensions on the right side and at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has a single large chimney at the rear with clay pots. The windows are from the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring casements with glazing bars. The entrance is located on the west front, where some timber framing is exposed. On the first floor, there are two 2-light windows, while the ground floor has a single 3-light window and a single 2-light window, the latter having a segmental arched head. The plain plank entrance door is situated on the left in a wide wooden frame, which is topped by a bracketed hood from the 20th century.

Inside, the cottage features inserted 17th-century joists and a principal beam with chamfers and shield stops. There are jowled posts and large curved brackets supporting the tie beam on the first floor, as well as a bread oven located in the chimney at the rear.
