Description

The Horse and Groom Public House is a cottage that has been transformed into a restaurant and public house. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as some changes and large extensions in the 20th century.

The building features a combination of part timber frame with painted brick infill and part painted brick. It has old tile gabled roofs that are of varying heights. Originally, the structure had a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays, but it has since been extended on both the left and right sides, as well as at the rear.

The exterior of the building is part two storeys, part two storeys with attics, and part one storey. There are four chimneys topped with clay pots, including a notably large gable chimney on the right with a weathered base. The west front, which serves as the entrance, has an irregular appearance with scattered windows. It features late 18th century and 20th century casement windows, some of which are leaded and others with glazing bars. The central section is the oldest part, showcasing two visible frame posts. On the first floor, there are two three-light windows, while the ground floor has four two-light casement windows set under segmental heads in a projecting flat-roofed extension. The entrance door, which is from the 20th century, is located on the left. To the left, there is a taller section that includes two two-light casements in a square dormer and a single light window on the ground floor. On the right side, there is a single storey section with a four-light window. The interior has not been inspected.
