Description
The Bull Inn is a hall house that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to around 1400 and has undergone alterations and extensions in the 16th, 19th, and mid-20th centuries.
The building features a mix of materials, including part timber frame mostly covered in painted render, and some areas of painted render with mock timber framing. It has old tile hipped roofs. Originally, the structure had an L-plan layout consisting of two framed bays by three framed bays, with an extension at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and includes three chimneys with corniced heads and clay pots. The 19th-century casement windows are complemented by open eaves. The entrance front faces south, with the oldest section on the left featuring a single bay with projecting gables that were formerly jettied. There is a two-light casement window on the first floor and a range of fixed windows across the entire width of the ground floor. A tall chimney projects from the left-hand return. The right-hand section has three bays and a small hipped roof dormer located to the right of centre. On the first floor, there are two-light and three-light windows on either side, while the ground floor features a large square bay window with three-light windows on either side and a plain entrance door on the left.
Inside, the Bull Inn showcases a fine, large sectioned timber frame. The large, plain joists have chamfers and stepped stops, and there are large, jowled posts. The tie beam of the middle roof truss is designed in the form of a pointed arch, likely with a crown post above it.
