Description
Walthamstow High School for Girls is a school built in 1913, constructed of red brick with some stone and rubbed brick dressings. It features a plain tile hipped roof that extends to the eaves. The building is two storeys high and has a seven-bay central block with three-bay wings that project forward, connected by one-bay linking blocks. The design follows a symmetrical Neo-Georgian style.
The entrance is marked by a central segmental pediment supported by Ionic columns. The windows are square-headed, with sashes that include small panes and glazing bars. The upper windows are taller and feature timber transoms and brick aprons, with prominent keystones above. There are round-headed stone architraved upper windows in the central and flanking bays. The building is adorned with a modillion cornice and segmental open pediments above the central bays of both the central and outer wings, with the central pediment showcasing carved brickwork. A central domed lantern completes the design.
