Description
Marylebone Adult Education Centre is a school building constructed in 1863, featuring red brick with stone dressings and some patterned brickwork, topped with a slate roof. This high Victorian building exhibits a slightly unconventional Gothic style. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has three-storey cross wings, measuring seven bays in width. The side elevation facing High Street is asymmetrical and includes two doorways with brick nogged tympana beneath semicircular relieving arches and stone drips, along with irregular flat-arched stone colonetted windows. The south front showcases a prominent range of large gabled two-storey half dormers with colonette shafted lights arranged in two tiers. The north front features semicircular archways on the ground floor, alternating with small square windows and two-light colonnetted windows on the first floor. A stone corbel table runs below the eaves, and deep-eaved gabled dormers are present in the roof. Internally, the ground floor is low and has brick vaulting.
