Description

The Grotto in Valentines Park, Ilford, is an early 18th-century structure featuring a brick core with Portland stone and rusticated quoins made of flint work. It has three bays, with a large central opening that contains seats and an apsidal ceiling decorated with shell-work and copper slag decoration. The Grotto is located on the south side of the formal canal and is part of the early 18th-century formal garden layout. Valentines Park is listed in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens at grade II.
