Description

This is a pair of gate piers from the early 18th century, made of Portland stone. Each pier features urns with gadrooned covers and acorn finials, standing on square two-stage bases with baluster-form pilasters on each face. They are depicted in a print from 1770 in front of Valentines Mansion, and they were likely moved to their current location on Emerson Road after Ilford Borough Council acquired the house and grounds. Valentines Park is listed in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens at grade II.
