Description
The Church of St Andrew, built in 1924 and designed by Sir Herbert Baker, is a Grade II listed building located in Ilford. It features a high nave flanked by low narrow aisles and a five-sided eastern apse. The church is constructed of red brick and has a steeply pitched clay tile roof, with a fleche at the west end. On the north side, there is a low projecting chapel with a gabled roof and an apse, while the south side has a full-height projecting organ loft with a hipped roof. The west front includes a small apsidal baptistery projection topped with a copper half dome and a statue. The exterior is characterized by deep stepped buttresses, segmental arched windows with brick mullions, and a rose window at the west end, along with pointed arched windows in the east apse. Inside, the church is entirely brick, featuring a seven-bay round arched nave and an open timber roof, with a vaulted east apse.
