Description

This is a headstone dedicated to Mary Taylor, located at St Mary's Church in Bedfont, and it dates from 1747. Made of Portland stone, the headstone features a moulded arched top with a relief depicting two skulls and bones lying in earth, surrounded by scrolls and beneath clouds that emit rays. The inscription commemorates Mary Taylor, who was 24 years old at the time of her death, and Charles Taylor, who died in 1748 at the age of 86. This headstone is noted for its handsome design and vivid relief that reflects the theme of the resurrection of the flesh.
