Description

The Church of St Mary, located on Staines Road in Bedfont, is a Norman structure with an original chancel that retains its chancel arch and one window, as well as part of the original nave featuring a well-preserved south doorway. Inside, there are wall paintings dating from around 1300 to the north of the chancel arch, and medieval king-post roofs in both the nave and chancel. The church also displays a collection of tablets from the 18th and early 19th centuries, along with a brass memorial for William Page and his mother Isabell, dated 1629-32. The churchyard contains gravestones and table tombs from the 18th century and later, as well as a pair of yew trees that were once clipped and originally featured initials and the date 1704. The church underwent expansions in the early 19th century on the north side and again around 1865, when the nave was lengthened and a new tower and south porch were added.
