Burlington House and Flanking Walls of Burlington House

Burlington House, built in 1791 for William Reed, is a two-storey building with a basement and a mansarded roof covered in old orange-red tiles. The structure is made of stock brick and features five sash windows with glazing bars. The round-headed doorway is approached by a double flight of steps, with one step from the right. The door is plain with flush panels and is topped by a fish-scaled semi-circular fanlight, framed by a plain architrave, consoles, and a cornice. Iron railings are present, along with a band at the stone-capped parapet and five flat-topped old sash window dormers with cornices. The building has plain stacks and no special features are noted in the interior.

The flanking walls of Burlington House are tall, made of stock brick with stone caps and ball finials, and they face The Green on each side. There are posts and chains in front of the property. The Green itself is an irregular triangular open space, bordered to the south by small houses and shops from the 18th century and later, and to the north by the church and a notable late 18th-century house set in its own grounds. The west side previously housed the "Black Dog" Inn, a well-known posting house, which has since been demolished, along with a group of cottages to the north and the Vicarage. The Green, with its buildings and tree planting, is considered a feature of considerable value and forms a group with the church to the north.
