Description

A manor house dating to the mid-16th century, located on Bedfont Road, Bedfont. The building is timber-framed, though it was altered externally in the 19th century, specifically in 1889. It retains a partial old tile roof. The manor house comprises a long range extending east to west, with a cross wing at the east end. The interior features an old beamed ceiling in a room at the north-east end. A central ground-floor room contains a good oak ceiling with ¼ round-chamfered beams. Upstairs rooms showcase exposed structural and roof beams, including curved wind-braces. The property’s history stretches back to 1272, during the reign of Edward I, when Richard Foun held lands in Bedfont. It has been associated with the Sherborn family since 1437 and was occupied by soldiers during the English Civil Wars.
