Description
This is a group of seven headstones belonging to the Taylor family, located about 5 metres east of the Church of St. Nicholas in Ringwould. The headstones date from the 18th century and include several notable features.
One headstone commemorates Benjamin Taylor and dates from the mid-18th century. It stands about 2½ feet high and features a nowy head, scrolled shoulders, and a cherub head. Another headstone, dated 1772, is approximately 3 feet high, with an illegible inscription and a rocaille-decorated head along with a cherub.
Dorothy Taylor, who died in 1743, is remembered on a headstone that is also about 2½ feet high, adorned with two skulls, crossed bones, and an hourglass. Mary Taylor, who passed away in 1724, has a headstone of similar height, featuring a skull, two coffins, and two hourglasses.
There is also a headstone for Thomas Taylor, which is now only about 1 foot above ground, displaying a shield, an anchor, and palm fronds. Lastly, Esther Taylor, who died in 1734, is commemorated with a headstone about 3 feet high, featuring a cornice head on scrolled shoulders and a cherub head.
