Description

St Alfege with St Peter's School is a church school built around 1865-1866 by S S Teulon for the Rev. George Blisset, with a slightly later wing added to the south. The building is constructed of stock brick and has a renewed slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan with the main block and a lower wing to the south, featuring an entrance and stairs in the angle. The school is two storeys high, with an attic floor in the wing.

The main façade has five bays, with four tripartite windows on each floor. The ground floor windows have simple tracery under relieving arches. Above the corner entrance, there is a single light window, and the projecting porch features a two-centred arched door. The stair tower at the back has lancet windows, and the first floor of the wing also has lancets. The ground floor of the wing includes a low tripartite window, with an attic dormer above it.

Notable architectural features include very high crowstep gables at the ends of the main wing, each adorned with four-light plate traceried windows, with the eastern window illuminating the library. A distinctive bellcote with open timber lozenges is positioned over the staircase angle. The interior retains original doors, dadoes, a staircase, and open timber roofs, all of which are simple and fitting for the character of the building.
