Description
The Memorial Shelter and Pavilion is a Grade II listed structure located on Charlton Way. This inter-war building, likely constructed in the 1920s, features an octagonal design made of granite and is supported by Tuscan columns. It has a moulded cornice and an octagonal tiled roof topped with a square cupola and a metal weathervane, which has a boarded underside.
At the center of the shelter is a concrete drinking fountain, inscribed "The Andrew Gibb Drinking Fountain," set on a moulded octagonal base. The fountain includes two bowls and a semi-circular bowl at the base for dogs, although the drinking apparatus was missing during the survey. Additionally, there are three benches with concrete supports and wooden seats for visitors to use.
