Description
The Clock Tower is a Grade II listed structure designed in a free classical style. It has a square plan and is primarily constructed of bathstone, featuring grey-brown stone walls and a dark stone plinth. The tower is topped with a pavilion roof that includes small gothic-arched louvres and a cross.
The upper section of the tower tapers and is adorned with bathstone quoins and a cornice, with a clock displayed on each face. The lower part features engaged Doric columns at the corners and open pediments that contain figures supported on cornices above inscribed panels. These panels commemorate the names of those who fell in the two World Wars. The figures include a soldier on the west side, winged female figures that may represent Peace, and a Welsh Dragon defeating a German Eagle on the east side.
