Description
This is an 18th-century milestone fixed to the wall of The Chequers Public House, located at number 34 on Eltham High Street. The milestone has a chamfered top and is set diagonally against the wall of the inn. It is currently painted black, with inscriptions in Roman lettering. On the east side, it indicates a distance of 8 miles to London Bridge, while the west side shows a distance of 4 miles to Footscray.
