Description
The old wall along the south and east sides of the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist dates from the 16th or 17th century and is constructed of red brick with sloped coping. The south wall is lower at the east end and higher at the west due to the slope of the hill. At the west end, the lower part of the wall is made of large, roughly knapped flints. The east end features flat buttresses on the upper walls that taper into the batter of the lower section. The eastern wall is mostly obscured by bus shelters and kiosks on the outside, while inside the churchyard, the ground rises to within 2 feet of the coping.
