Description

This is an 18th-century square milestone located on the pavement slightly south of the axis of number 494 on Footscray Road, SE9. The milestone features a chamfered top and has weathered Roman lettering on the west side that reads "MILES X LONDON." There are early 19th-century iron plates inserted on two sides. The east face indicates "10 MILES TO LONDON," while the south face states "2 MILES TO FOOTSCRAY."
