Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses located on the south side of Clarendon Gardens, London. The terrace comprises numbers 8 to 17, with a breakforward to the left and right. The buildings are constructed of brick, with a stuccoed facade and channelled detailing to the ground floor. They rise to four storeys above a basement.

Each house has two bays, with the left-hand section containing four bays and the right-hand section ten. Steps lead up to projecting porches with attached Ionic columns. The return walls of the porches feature round-arched sash windows. Double doors are positioned within the porches. The main windows are tripartite sashes with slender columns and scrolled ironwork to the sills. An egg and dart cornice runs along the top of the facade. The first-floor casement windows are set within architraves and have decorative hoods supported by consoles, featuring drops and decorative stuccowork friezes. A sill band is present on the second floor. The second-floor windows are keyed segment-arched sashes with four panes. Another sill band is found on the third floor, above which are keyed segment-arched sashes with four panes. The third-floor windows also have keyed architraves. A modillion cornice tops the building. The terrace is included on the list solely for its group value.
