Description

TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER OLD COMPTON STREET, W1 (south side) 71/8 No 31 23.11.78 GV II Terrace house. 1724, later C20 alterations to front. Cement rendered brick (formerly with red brick dressings), concealed roof. 4 storeys. 3 windows wide. Ground floor has later C20 shop front. Upper floors have flush framed windows with casements inserted, under segmental heads. Bands between storeys (moulded brick formerly). Interior retains a number of original features including panelled passage hall with box cornice and fluted pilaster archway to stairwell which is also panelled with closed string dog leg stairs, the turned balusters boxed in, cornices and panelling partly covered over in 1st and 2nd floor rooms etc. Survey of London; Vol. XXXIII.
