Description
31 Old Compton Street is a terrace house built in 1724, with some alterations made in the 20th century to the front. The building is constructed of cement-rendered brick, which was originally dressed with red brick, and features a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall and is three windows wide. The ground floor has a later 20th-century shop front, while the upper floors have flush framed windows with casements that have been inserted under segmental heads. There are bands between the storeys, which were originally moulded brick.
Inside, the house retains several original features, including a panelled passage hall with a box cornice and a fluted pilaster archway leading to the stairwell. The stairwell is also panelled and features closed string dog leg stairs with turned balusters that are boxed in. Some cornices and panelling have been partly covered over in the first and second floor rooms.
