Description
15 Tavistock Street is a terrace house with a shop, built in 1729. The building features brown brick with red brick dressings and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high and is three windows wide. The shop front was altered in the early 19th century but still retains a panelled house door to the right, which is flanked by fluted pilasters and an entablature fascia. The upper floors have flush framed glazing bar sashes set under segmental arches. There is a brick band below the attic storey and a parapet with coping.
Inside, the building retains a passage hall that leads to a dog leg staircase with closed strings, turned balusters, and column newels. The first-floor rooms are panelled and feature box cornices. The front room has fielded panelling, with a Doric pilaster framing a cupboard door to the right of the chimney breast. The rear room includes an angle fireplace and plain panelling, with box cornices continuing to the second floor.
