TQ 3080 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER TAVISTOCK STREET, WC2 73/11 (south side) 15.1.73 Nos 40 and 42 G.V. II Pair of end of terrace houses with shops. c1830-40 rebuild or refacing. Stock brick, slate roof. 4 storeys and dormered mansard. Each front 2 windows wide with 3 window return to Catherine Street. Original wooden shop front with panelled and glazed door flanked by display windows and returned, with pilasters carrying entablature-fascia with projecting cornice. Upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes in stucco architraves. 3rd floor stucco sill band and crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. Survey of London; Vol XXXVI
