Description
110 and 112 Barton Street are a pair of terraced houses with shops built over what were once their front gardens. These houses date from the late 18th century, while the shops were added in the mid to late 19th century, along with later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone details and have slate roofs with brick stacks. They are designed as a double-depth block and are mirror images of each other, featuring rear wings.
The exterior of the houses is three storeys high. The ground floors have 19th-century shop fronts that still retain some original features, including a wrought-iron decorative scrolled parapet rail over the shop front of No.112. The symmetrical front of the houses is highlighted by a stone crowning dentil cornice and a coped parapet. On both the first and second floors, No.112 has two original sash windows with glazing bars (3x4 panes), while No.110 has two plain, late 20th-century sash windows. All the sash windows are set in their original openings, which feature rubbed brick, flat arched heads, and projecting stone sills. The interior has not been inspected.
