Description

No. 108 on Eastgate Street in Gloucester is a public house that has been converted into two shops and dwellings. It likely dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building features a brick front that is stuccoed, although it may include a timber frame, and has a slate roof with a brick stack on the left side.

The structure is three storeys high and has a coped parapet. The ground floor was remodeled in the early 20th century and includes five large sash windows between doorways that now serve as shop entrances. On the upper floors, there is a jettied projection on the right, supported by three large, moulded timber console brackets. To the left, there is a canted oriel window that rises to full height and is supported by a plain cove.

On the first floor, there is a sash window in the jettied projection and another sash immediately to the left of it, both with glazing bars (three panes by four panes). The oriel window has a front sash with glazing bars (four panes by four panes) and side sashes (one pane by four panes). The second floor features shorter sashes that are otherwise similar to those on the first floor, with three panes by three panes in the projection and three panes by four panes in the oriel, along with one pane by three panes on the sides.

Additionally, there are two decorative wrought-iron hanging inn sign brackets from the 18th century fixed to the front of the jettied projection, positioned one above the other. The interior has not been inspected.
