Description
No. 87 Eastgate Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with a stuccoed front above the shop and has a plain-tiled roof with a gabled dormer. It is a double-depth block with a parallel plan and a rear wing to the left.
The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic. The shop front is from the 20th century and includes a fascia above. The first floor jetties out, supported by brackets at either end, and has two 19th-century plain horned sash windows. There is an eaves gutter with a rainwater head and pipe on the right side. The central dormer contains a pair of casement windows with glazing bars, arranged in a 2x3 pane configuration. At the rear, an original gable is believed to be visible.
The interior has not been inspected. The building is reputed to have connections to the Siege of Gloucester in 1643.
