Description
66 Eastgate Street is a shop and former dwelling built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with painted stone details on the front and has a double-depth layout.
The exterior features three storeys. On the front, flanking the modern shop front, are the ends of the original plinth and raised, chamfered quoins at the corners that extend to the full height of the building. There is a band at the first-floor level and a coped parapet above. On the first floor, there are two tall sash windows with glazing bars, each consisting of three by five panes, set in openings with flat arches that have raised key stones. The second floor has two 20th-century casement windows in the original 18th-century openings, complete with projecting stone sills.
The mid-18th-century facade contributes significantly to the streetscape and is consistent with the adjacent buildings at Nos 62 and 64, situated in the historic core of Gloucester. The interior has not been inspected.
