TQ 2980 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER ALBEMARLE STREET W1 81/6 No 50 24.2.58 GV II*

Terraced town house, c. 1710-20. Stuccoed front with slate roof. 4 storeys basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide. Doorway to right with stone doorcase with moulded cornice hood on carved consoles. Revealed segmental arched sash windows, no glazing bars, with keystones reaching up to plat bands above. Plat band between each floor and bracketed main cornice. c. 1800 wrought iron balconettes to 1st floor. Interior largely intact, doorcases, dados, cornices etc. including fine staircase, open string with carved brackets to tread ends, twisted balusters and mahogany handrail swept to columnar newels. The house was the original residence of John Murray, the founder of the publishers of that name and has many literary associations.
