Description
Agnew's is a commercial building and gallery located at 42 and 43 Old Bond Street in the City of Westminster, constructed in 1877 by E. Salomons. This building is designed in a fine quality red brick with a slate roof and exhibits a Queen Anne transitional style. It stands four storeys tall and is three windows wide.
The ground floor has been rebuilt in the later 20th century but maintains a design that is in keeping with the original style, featuring a gallery window to the right and an entrance to the left, which has a brick plat band arched over it. Above the doorway, there are two original oculi flanking an ornately moulded brick console bracket that supports a sharply bowed oriel window, which spans three storeys and is flanked by pilasters. This oriel features glazing bar sash windows.
To the right, there are two windows set within vertically linked through-storey architraves made of moulded brick, also with glazing bar sashes. Each floor of the front façade is adorned with moulded brick cornices, including over the oriel. Additionally, there are brick pediments over the right-hand window bays above the third-floor cornice, which are situated under balustraded sections of the parapet.
