Description
This building, located at 61, 61A, 62, and 62A Piccadilly, was constructed in 1887 by architects Ernest George and Peto. It is a corner block featuring offices and shops, designed in the Northern Renaissance style with a lively terracotta façade and a slate roof. The structure has five main storeys and double attics, with four windows facing Piccadilly and a splayed corner, along with a five-window return on Albemarle Street. The ground floor includes shops set between original piers topped with an entablature and a corner entrance. From the first to the third floors, there are four rectangular bays with mullioned and transomed casement windows, each adorned with painted tent roofs. The Albemarle Street return features two archways, one of which includes an entrance and a balcony above, along with more mullioned and transomed windows. The roof has an eaves cornice and two large shaped gables at each front, although the flanking consoles are now missing. The building is also characterized by tiered dormers and large decorated chimney stacks.
